Un ejemplo de explotación de datasets de museos.

Abstract: "The large dataset made available by the Museum of Cultural History, University of Oslo, is used
to present broad patterns in the geographic distribution of all Stone Age finds from the museum. A set of
metadata is introduced to describe the precision and accuracy of the geographic information. To incorporate
most of the finds, the first presentation is done at the level of municipality. In a second analysis, only finds
with more precise location are used, and Mesolithic/Early Neolithic and Late Neolithic sites are separated.
This shows that a change in the distribution pattern from these large museum databases can be good starting points for analyses, a place to get new ideas and to see whether a hypothesis might be worth pursuing."

Cool stuff made with cultural heritage APIs and linked data

Como muestra este post del blog Museums and the machine-processable web, comienza a haber proyectos interesantes que usan linked data y APIs que explotan el patrimonio cultural.

"There's of lot of behind-the-scenes work using linked data and cultural heritage APIs.  When data is open, as well as structured, people outside the organisation can make cool stuff.  Here's a selection of sites, apps and hacks that help demonstrate the value of linked open cultural data"

Jon Voss provides a status on Linked Open Data for Libraries, Archives, and Museums (LODLAM) State of Affairs and the annual summit to advance this work

Linked Open Data in Libraries, Archives and Museums Summit 2013 #LODLAM

LODLAM es un evento internacional sobre la aplicación de la filosofía Linked Open Data en bibliotecas, archivos y museos:

The International Linked Open Data in Libraries, Archives, and Museums Summit (LODLAM Summit) will convene leaders in their respective areas of expertise from the humanities and sciences to catalyze practical, actionable approaches to publishing and consuming Linked Open Data, specifically:

    • Identify the tools and techniques for publishing and working with Linked Open Data.
    • Share, consider and publicize precedents and policy for licensing and copyright considerations regarding the publishing of library, archive, and museum metadata.
    • Share and promote use cases that will give LAM staff the tools they need to begin implementing Linked Open Data in their institutions.

The LODLAM Summit will take place June 19-20, 2013 in Montreal, Canada
