La descripción archivística. De los instrumentos de descripción hacia la web semántica.

El artículo realiza una aproximación a la descripción como proceso de trabajo en los archivos, recogiendo los frutos de esta actividad que son los instrumentos de descripción, y las posibilidades que brinda la tecnología web, mediante los Sistemas de Acceso Archivístico y con especial mención a la Web semántica. Para acercarnos al amplio concepto de la descripción, entendida como proceso, resultado e instrumento, se recogen algunos apuntes teóricos fundamentados por diversos autores y ejemplos que permitan entender la importancia de esta tarea en el actual entorno electrónico.

Bibliotecas públicas y memoria: las cenicientas necesarias. La importancia de la biblioteca en el camino hacia la web semántica

Una de las apuestas estratégicas de la Unión Europea es hacer accesible el patrimonio cultural compatibilizando conservar y difundir con incentivar la actividad económica desde un postulado de defensa del bien público. Europeana, el proyecto que vela por la conservación y la calidad de la memoria colectiva europea, se enfrenta al desafío buscando el equilibrio entre la calidad de la transmisión de la información, la generación de ingresos y la disminución de las barreras de uso para atraer usuarios. En esta comunicación se incide en el papel que la biblioteca pública puede tener en la difusión de un nuevo concepto de patrimonio y memoria que ayude a dar visibilidad y dotar de contenidos a Europeana.

Descarga un museo (gratis) en tu ordenador: El Museo Getty libera casi 5000 imágenes de sus fondos

El Museo J. Paul Getty de California (EEUU) libera 4.600 imágenes de los fondos de sus colecciones, que se encuentran en dominio público y los pone a disposición de los usuarios  para “usar, modificar y publicar con el propósito que sea”. Como señala el museo, de esta manera se convierte “en un ciudadano digital mucho más comprometido, que comparte sus colecciones, investigaciones y conocimiento de manera más abierta que nunca”.

Editor’s note: Rachel is an intern from the University of Maryland’s iSchool MLS program and has been with us for the past seven weeks. Her internship is coming to a close, so we’ve asked her to write a blog post to share what she has done as part of her internship. I have posted this on her behalf. In January, Joel wrote about our plans to present the Taxonomic Literature-2 (TL-2) dataset as Linked Open Data, allowing for greater searchability and reuse. The main focus of my internship was to identify and investigate other data elements that could be converted to Linked Open Data.

Hemos conocido a Pedro Szekeky en el LODLAM Summit 2013 y hemos asistido al taller sobre la herramienta que están desarrollando en la Southerm California University denominada Karma. The Getty Vocabularies: project to publish as Linked Open Data (Getty Research Institute)

The Getty has a project to publish as LINKED OPEN DATA their vocabuaries. In the LODLAM Summit 2013, they have said that, planning for the publication of all four Getty vocabularies as Linked Open Data (LOD) is well underway. It´s anticipated that the data will be publishing under the ODC_BY 1.0. license. They will begin with AAT and then move on to TGN, ULAN from AAT and TGN; and CONA from all three. They also intend to publish LOD versions of their lookup list (e.g., languages, roles, nationalities, place types, and bibliographic sources). http://www.getty.edu/research/tools/vocabularies/2_itwg_technical_update.pdf What is the history of the Getty vocabularies?

GNOSS Meta-library is the solution to build a semantic library of libraries, aggregating works and metadata of multiple libraries and making them available as Linked Data. The basis underlying the Meta-library project is building a unified graph of library resources and authors in order that each node is represented by a single URI, so that the author is always the same one regardless of the library where the books are located. For example, Cervantes will be the same author of a book in the Spanish National Library or in the Miguel de Cervantes Virtual Library. As GNOSS Meta-library works according to the standards of the Semantic Web and the principles of the Linked Open Data Web, it can connect with other parts of the Linked Open Data Web, like DBpedia, Freebase or Geonames. Linked Data at the Science Museum of London (Tristan Roddis and Cogapp) Vía W3C

The Science Museum in London, along with commercial agency Cogapp, have recently embarked on a project to convert their information to linked data format. So far the focus has been on consolidating disparate data by converting them to linked data which at the moment is still private not public. However, the museum is keen to investigate the possibility of releasing the data and is seeking advice on this.
