    An Explosion of Tech Startups

I have recently read a very relevant report about Tech Startups published in The Economist (January 18th – 24th, 2014; pages 3 -16). This summarizes and integrates 1) a good analysis of the current context for Tech Startups and 2) a set of fundamental principles newly developed for the successful launching of a tech startup. Let me present a brief of the four main ideas, from my own perspective:

    1. “Software is eating the world”:

    2. “Economic and social shifts have provided added momentum for startups”

    3.  “Setting up a startup is a doodle”

    4. “Creating a Business =Testing”

Semantic Web – Smithsonian Libraries Blog

Editor’s note: Rachel is an intern from the University of Maryland’s iSchool MLS program and has been with us for the past seven weeks. Her internship is coming to a close, so we’ve asked her to write a blog post to share what she has done as part of her internship. I have posted this on her behalf. In January, Joel wrote about our plans to present the Taxonomic Literature-2 (TL-2) dataset as Linked Open Data, allowing for greater searchability and reuse. The main focus of my internship was to identify and investigate other data elements that could be converted to Linked Open Data.
