Artículo de Marc Bertin and Iana Atanassova (STIH-LaLIC Laboratory, Paris-Sorbonne University) sobre la posibilidad de dar un valor añadido a las publicaciones científicas a través de la semántica. Publicado en D-Lib Magazine (Julio-Agosto 2012): "The last several years have seen the emergence of digital libraries from which documents are harvested using the OAI-PMH protocol. Considering the volume of data provided by these repositories, we are interested in the exploitation of the full text content of scientific publications. Our aim is to bring new value to scientific publications by automatic extraction and semantic analysis. The identification of bibliographic references in texts makes it possible to localize specific text segments that car...

Tom Johnson has written an article sharing Seth Earley’s insights regarding taxonomy, metadata, and search. At a recent workshop, “Seth outlined a three-prong approach to information management: (1) Develop a taxonomy. (2) Apply the taxonomy to your content. (3) Leverage the taxonomy to view your content in different ways.” According to Johnson, “Taxonomy is one of those vague words whose meaning seems a bit slippery, but Seth was adamant that taxonomy is not navigation, though it affects navigation. By taxonomy, we’re referring to ‘a system for organizing concepts and categorizing content.’ A taxonomy is your metadata, ‘arranged in a tree-like structure, with top level categories that branch out to reveal subcategories and terms ...

The TWC International Open Government Dataset Search (IOGDS) is a linked data application based on metadata "scraped" from hundreds of international dataset catalog websites publishing a rich variety of government data. Metadata extracted from these catalog websites is automatically converted to RDF linked data and re-published via the TWC LOGD SPARQL endpoint and made available for download. The TWC IOGDS demo site features an efficient, reconfigurable faceted browser with search capabilities offering a compelling demonstration of the value of a common metadata model for open government dataset catalogs. We believe that the vocabulary choices demonstrated by IOGDS highlights the potential for useful linked data applications to be created from open government catalogs and will e...

Nature Publishing Group's (NPG) Linked Data Platform now hosts more than 270 million Resource Description Framework (RDF) statements. It has been expanded more than ten times, in a growing number of datasets. These datasets have been created under the Creative Commons Zero (CC0) waiver, which permits maximal use/reuse of this data. The data is now being updated in real-time and new triples are being dynamically added to the datasets as articles are published on nature.com. More info: http://data.nature.com
