    Los autores hacen un análisis de cómo las tecnologías asociadas a la Web Semántica están impactando en el ámbito de la inteligencia de negocio, en los productos denominados Business Intelligence.

    His chapter describes the convergence of two of the most influential technologies in the last decade, namely business intelligence (BI) and the Semantic Web (SW). Business intelligence is used by almost any enterprise to derive important business-critical knowledge from both internal and (increasingly) external data. When using external data, most often found on the Web, the most important issue is knowing the precise semantics of the data. Without this, the results cannot be trusted. Here, Semantic Web technologies come to the rescue, as they allow semantics ranging from very simple to very complex to be specified for any web-available resource. SW technologies do not only support capturing the “passive” semantics, but also support active inference and reasoning on the data. The chapter first presents a motivating running example, followed by an introduction to the relevant SW foundation concepts.     En este paper escrito por Melody Siadaty, Jelena Jovanović y Dragan Gašević se expone una visión general sobre cómo los recientes avances tecnológicos ofrecen nuevas herramientas para mejorar y acelerar el aprendizaje en nuestros días.

    El artículo presenta las ventajas que la adopción de tecnologías sociales y semánticas comportan en el proceso de enseñanza/aprendizaje y el efecto simbiótico de ambas para coadyuvar a un mejor aprendizaje. Hace una breve presentación de ambas y arguye la necesidad de su interelación para que los contenidos generados por los usuarios en marcos sociales y colaborativos puedan ser representados de tal forma que las máquinas nos ayuden a recuperarlos y enlazarlos de forma mecánica.

    El artículo concluye con una discusión sobre las lecciones aprendidas, las preguntas todavía sin respuesta y las direcciones para futuras líneas de investigaciones.

    Linked Data tools: Semantic Web for the masses

    Semantic Web technologies have immense potential to transform the Internet into a distributed reasoning machine that will not only execute extremely precise searches, but will also have the ability to analyze the data it finds to create new knowledge. This paper examines the state of Semantic Web (also known as Linked Data) tools and infrastructure to determine whether semantic technologies are sufficiently mature for non–expert use, and to identify some of the obstacles to global Linked Data implementation.

    Introduction

    Ludwig Wittgenstein’s 20,000 pages of manuscripts and typescripts (his ‘Nachlass’) display his continuous philosophical development and contain revisions, rearrangements and ‘multiple versioning.’ Their publication poses a number of challenges, for book as well as for digital editions (Huitfeldt 1994). Since its creation in 1990, the Wittgenstein Archives at the University of Bergen (WAB) has tried to meet these challenges through digital editorial philology. In 2000, WAB’s ‘Bergen Electronic Edition’ (BEE) of Wittgenstein’s Nachlass was published by Oxford University Press, and in 2009, 5000 pages from the Nachlass were made freely available (Open Access) on the Web ( http://www.wittgensteinsource.org/, cf. Fig. 1). Since 2001, XML-based text encoding (TEI P5) has been one of several central ingredients through which WAB has worked continuously to improve access to Wittgenstein’s manuscripts.
