Aplicación semántica para móbiles desarrollada para ayudar a los peregrinos del Camino de Santiago

Partnered by the Instituto Geográfico Nacional (IGN), researchers from the Ontology Engineering Group at the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid's School of Computing and the Universidad de Santiago de Compostela's Intelligent Systems Group have developed a software application that will provide a range of geomatic services for Camino de Santiago de Compostela (St. Jacques' Way) pilgrims and allow them to share information with other users anytime and anyplace through social networking over their mobile phones.

The application is based on a platform (GeoBuddies) implementing algorithms for the following aspects:

* Integration of ontology-based information, which will be used to harmonize the multilingual and heterogeneous databases provided by the IGN.

* Social annotation of resources and services, which will provide the information required to form user communities.

* Collaborative filtering, which will provide user community-based recommendations.

* Dynamic composition and execution of services, which will be used to create and use dynamic user context-based added-value services.

* Data transfer and reliability in mobile environments, which will assure that key user data are always available to the services that they are used by and to the mobile devices in use.
