Faceted search: when and why? Faceted search helps people to look for things based on criteria that are important for them. In classic web navigation, the website determines the order of the choices. But this hierarchical structure is too limited for sites with a large product range or information offering. Different people often have different criteria in searching for the same thing. Interesante artículo sobre las fortalezas y la ingeniería de usabilidad de los buscadores facetados. A diferencia de los buscadores basados en algoritmos de relevancia, los facetados no anticipan ni interpretan la petición del usuario, a la par que posibilitan el que las personas recuperen la información utilizando criterios diferentes.

Se trata de una de las numerosas aplicaciones construidas sobre la iniciativa DBPedia. Permite a los usuarios realizar consultas complejas contra la Wikipedia. Las respuestas a esas consultas no se generan comparando cadenas como hacen Google o Yahoo, sino basándose en información estructurada extraída de diferentes artículos de la Wikipedia.
