"While sharing and reusing educational data across institutional and national boundaries is a general goal for both the public and the private education sector, the last decade has seen a large amount of research dedicated to Web-scale interoperability. The Linked Data approach – based W3C standards such as RDF and a set of successful principles – has evolved as the general standard for sharing data on the Web and led to vast amounts of publicly available data sets, and a multiplicity of Linked Data-consuming applications which provide added-value services. However, there is only limited take-up of Linked Data principle...

La charla tendrá lugar en Semantic Technology and Business Conference (19-20 septiembre de 2012, Londres): "Just as a social and professional graph have emerged through Facebook and LinkedIn, so too is an education graph emerging describing connections between students, teachers and the learning resources they use. The Talis Aspire application allows university lecturers to create lists of learning resources for a particular course, which ar...

Nature Publishing Group's (NPG) Linked Data Platform now hosts more than 270 million Resource Description Framework (RDF) statements. It has been expanded more than ten times, in a growing number of datasets. These datasets have been created under the Creative Commons Zero (CC0) waiver, which permits maximal use/reuse of this data. The data is now being updated in real-time and new triples are being dynamically added to the datasets as articles are published on nature.com. More info: http://data.nature.com

This site builds on a previous web site that used a toolkit based on a web ontology language called SHOE, developed at the University of Maryland. Former Maryland PhD student Jeff Heflin did his thesis on SHOE, and developed many tools and techniques for using semantic markup (In fact, Jeff continues his work on SHOE and related languages, which is described on his research page.) Work on SHOE, and some of the first web pages based thereon began in 1996, and various tools and web pages using SHOE have been found on University of Maryland web sites since then. This site is the most ambitious such to date, and is the first to use many of the new Semantic Web tools developed in the MINDSWAP project.

"Classic "chicken 'n' egg" problem has impeded the growth of the Semantic Web Development of applications for the Semantic Web will remain small-scale without a critical mass of RDF data.
A critical mass of RDF data won't be achieved without adequate Semantic Web applications and tools. A new class of tools is emerging in response to this need..."RDFizers", transform non-RDF data into RDF.

A new public wiki site has been set up at W3C, nicknamed “Semantic Web Standards Wiki” or SWSWiki. It is not the goal of this wiki to supersede other community wikis like Semanticweb.org or OWLED Wiki; instead it is to provide a “first stop” for more information on Semantic Web technologies, in particular on Semantic Web Standards published by the W3C. Communiti...
